DC fast charging slows significantly above 80%, so real fast-charge sessions to 100% take longer than a straight-line estimate. A 10% charging loss is included.
How charging time is calculated.
Frequently asked questions.
What is the difference between Level 1, 2, and DC fast charging?
Level 1 uses a standard 120V outlet (slowest, ~3–5 mi/hr). Level 2 uses 240V (home or public, most common overnight). DC fast charging bypasses the onboard charger to deliver 50–250+ kW directly for rapid top-ups.
Why does charging slow down near 100%?
To protect the battery, the charging rate tapers as the pack fills. On DC fast chargers, the last 20% can take as long as the first 60%, which is why 80% is the practical fast-charge target.
Can I charge a big battery on a home outlet?
Technically yes, but a 120V Level 1 outlet may take 40+ hours for a large pack. A Level 2 home charger is strongly recommended for any EV with a battery over ~40 kWh.
