Oil change FAQ.

Is the 3,000-mile oil change rule still valid?

No. Modern full synthetic oils last 7,500–15,000 miles. The 3,000-mile rule was for older conventional oil and old engine technology. Always follow your owner's manual — most modern cars call for 5,000–10,000 mile intervals with synthetic oil.

What happens if I go too long without an oil change?

Old oil loses viscosity and becomes contaminated with combustion byproducts, metal particles, and acids. Over time, this accelerates wear on engine components. Extreme neglect can cause sludge buildup, bearing damage, and eventually engine failure.

Should I use synthetic or conventional oil?

Full synthetic oil outperforms conventional in nearly all conditions — better cold-weather flow, higher temperature stability, longer intervals. Most modern cars require synthetic. If your manual says conventional is fine and you change it frequently, it's still acceptable.
