The physics of stopping.
(m) = (km/h ÷ 3.6) × seconds
Braking Distance = v² / (2 × μ × g)
v = speed in m/s · μ = friction coefficient
g = 9.81 m/s² (gravity)

How does speed affect stopping distance?
Stopping distance scales with the square of speed. Double your speed and braking distance quadruples. At 50 km/h you stop in ~20 m on dry road; at 100 km/h it's ~78 m - not double, but nearly four times as far.
How much does wet road increase stopping distance?
Wet roads reduce friction coefficient from ~0.8 to ~0.5, increasing braking distance by 60%. Monsoon-slicked roads with oil residue can behave closer to the "snow/loose" figure. Standing water (aquaplaning risk) can be far worse than either.
Does ABS help stopping distance?
ABS prevents wheel lockup (which reduces friction), allowing you to steer while braking. On dry pavement, ABS doesn't significantly shorten stopping distance. On slippery or gravel-strewn surfaces (common on Indian highways), ABS can improve stopping distance by 5-20% while maintaining steering control.
