Is it cheaper to charge at home or at a public station in India?

Home charging is almost always cheaper - often less than half the cost of DC fast charging. Fast chargers charge a premium for speed and convenience. Use public fast charging for highway trips and home (or workplace) charging for everyday driving.

What is charging efficiency and why does it matter?

Some energy is lost as heat between the wall and the battery. AC home charging is roughly 85-92% efficient, so you pay for a bit more electricity than actually reaches the battery. The calculator accounts for this so your cost reflects what your meter reads.

Why charge only to 80%?

Regularly charging a lithium-ion battery to 100% can accelerate long-term degradation. Many manufacturers recommend an 80% daily limit and saving 100% for trips. That is why 20-80% is the default range here.

How much does home electricity for EV charging cost in India?

It depends heavily on your state and consumption slab - residential tariffs commonly run ₹6-9/kWh, though some states and higher slabs go beyond that. Check your own electricity bill's per-unit rate for the most accurate figure rather than relying on a national average.
